10 key facts FOR REGULAR USERS===================================
1 SAFE (Secure Access For Everyone) is a network like the Internet but created by connecting users devices together rather than relying on centralised servers [Watch this introductory video22].
2 This makes SAFE more private, more secure and more resistant to being censored or taken down by authorities, criminals or powerful corporations [Read why this matters14].
3 SAFE is being developed by Scottish company MaidSafe5. It is currently in testing mode [See the roadmap11]. Currently there is no public test network. When there is it will be announced on the regular Thursday Dev Update4.
4 The current test networks run on a combination of data centre hosted machines and users' own devices at home. Eventually the data centre machines will be phased out altogether leaving a self-sustaining network running only on users' computers and smartphones.
5 The core app you need to get started is the SAFE Browser with authenticator2 (to connect to the network). Currently there is no live test net, but the SAFE Browser with authenticator allows you to use 'mock routing' to simulate the network so you can create an account and publish a website as if you were online (although you won't be able to share it of course). You can also try out other apps being developed for SAFE. Once you have created an account you can upload and download files and create a website using the Demo App4
Note: there is currently no live network so the functionality of these apps is limited
6 Data stored on the network is either Public (can be shared with others) or Private (only you can see it). To publish a safe:// website design it offline then upload the files and folders using the Demo App to the Public area. After that you can publish it using the Demo App and view it using the SAFE Browser. To store private files upload them to the Private area. Simple!
7 If your computer and Internet connection are reasonably fast, you can also help MaidSafe debug the system by running a Vault9 (a store for encrypted file fragments). You don't need to run a vault to use other aspects of SAFE.
Note: there is currently no live test network so you cannot run a vault at present
8 Eventually vaults will also be used to manage an internal currency called Safecoin3, which you will be able to earn and spend on the network, but this is not ready yet.
9 Your login credentials cannot be recovered if you forget them - you will have to create a new account. So don't lose them!.

10 key facts FOR MAIDSAFECOIN INVESTORS===============================
1 MaidSafeCoin is a token that was created in a crowdsale in 2014 to support the project. It can be traded but not farmed (mined).
2 When the SAFE Network launches, MaidSafeCoin will be converted to the network's cryptocurrency Safecoin on a 1:1 basis, [More information on the Wiki18].
3 MaidSafeCoin is currently traded on Poloniex, Bittrex, Livecoin, Yuanbao and ShapeShift.io exchanges. You can buy it with Bitcoin and exchange it with other cryptocoins and tokens. Beware MAID coins on other exchanges - they may be scams.
4 MaidSafeCoin is based on the Omni protocol and can be stored online in an Omniwallet or offline in a hardware or paper wallet.
5 When the SAFE Network goes live you will be able to 'farm' (mine) Safecoin by offering resources (CPU and storage) to the network. There is no blockchain and no proof-of-work. [More about farming on the Wiki17]
6 Not being based on a blockchain avoids many of the scalability and sustainability issues facing Bitcoin.
7 There's a detailed discussion on the differences between Bitcoin and Safecoin here35.
8 Safecoin will be used to buy storage and services on SAFE Network, and paid to people providing resources to the network by farming.
9 App developers may also be paid for their work. [Not confirmed yet, see here12 and many other threads on this forum]
10 Some issues remain to be resolved including divisibility. A Safecoin is data rather than a number stored on a blockchain making it harder to subdivide than Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. [See here11 and other threads on this forum]
10 key facts FOR DEVELOPERS ===============
1 You can develop applications for the SAFE network right now.
2 The safeApp DOM API1 is the entry point to interact with the SAFE network. The SAFE Network client side modules are here4. Please note that the APIs and the libraries are subject to change.
3 Some community members are teaching themselves to use the SAFE APIs and documenting their progress [e.g. Intro to Node for SAFE Apps9].
4 SAFE Core is mostly written in Rust and apps written in Rust can access this layer directly [Read more here4].
6 There are a number of tutorial applications available to help you learn the APIs including an email app, a Markdown editor, a website with comments and a video chat app. You can download them all in [one package1 ]. [Read more at the [tutorials pages3]. Latest developments include a mountable virtual drive SAFE-VFS an IoT framework SAFEthing, a web based version of the demo app and Frames a video sharing platform.
7 A selection of sample apps2 and downloads is available from @whiteoutmashups
8 There is a developer-specific SAFE Dev Forum7 where you can ask about the more technical stuff. The MaidSafe Asia forums are intended to bring together developers from that continent, while there are forum categories catering for languages including Spanish, Russian and German.
9 Other places where you can discuss SAFE developments include the Riot channel, Reddit4 and Slack5.
10 Fairly soon a new data type 'mutable data' will be introduced, at which point the current structured and appendable data types will be deprecated [Read the mutable data RFC3]
